TITLE
Troops to Teachers Program
HISTORY
The Department of Defense Troops to Teachers (TTT) Program
was officially established on Jan. 19, 1994, and is managed
by the federal Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education
Support (DANTES).
MOTIVATION
This program was established to
help relieve teacher shortages, provide positive role models
in the nation's public schools, and to assist military and
civilian personnel impacted by military reductions to enter
a new career in public education.

WHO OPERATES
The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, IHE, LEA,
and DANTES cooperatively work together to provide resources
and a plan for the TTT applicant.

REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER
Bachelor's degree with 45 quarter hours in an endorsement
area or an associate degree to be accepted into the TTT program
which leads to certification.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
DANTES and the local TTT office assist interested individuals
in locating a certification program, and/or securing a position
as a teacher (or teacher's aide if there is only an associate's
degree).
NUMBER OF CREDIT HOURS
Varies, depending on prior credits applicable and the subject
area in which candidate is being certified.
LENGTH OF TIME
Varies, depending on the program and the IHE.
