Conditional Teaching Permit for Intervention Specialist (K-12)

Ohio Department of Education, Office of Certification Licensure
and employing school/district.
REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER
Prospective employing school district agrees to provide a
structured mentoring program.
The candidate
Holds a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Must pass the basic skills test prescribed by the State Board
of Education.
Has completed 15 semester hours (or equivalent) in the principles
and practices of teaching exceptional children, including such
topics as child and adolescent development, diagnosis and assessment
of children with disabilities, curriculum design and instruction,
applied behavioral analysis, and methods of teaching students
from culturally diverse backgrounds with the different learning
styles.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The individual enters the classroom to teach full-time in
the intervention specialist area for one year under the Conditional
Teaching Permit.
Must complete an additional three semester hours in the content
and methods of teaching reading during the year for which the
Conditional Teaching Permit is issued.
Must complete the requirements for the Alternative Educator
License for Intervention Specialist at the end of the year
for which the Conditional Teaching Permit is issued.
NUMBER OF CREDIT HOURS TO COMPLETE
One year to complete a total of 18 hours of professional education
coursework, including 15 semester hours of pre-service and
three semester hours of in-service coursework.
LENGTH OF TIME
One year, nonrenewable.
OTHER
The authorization for the One-Year Conditional Teaching Permit
for Intervention Specialist is an emergency measure which expires
November 2004.
