Secondary (7-12) subject areas.
WHO OPERATES
Ohio Department of Education, Office of Certification Licensure
and employing school/district.
REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER
Prospective employing school district agrees to provide a
structured mentoring program.
The candidate:
- Holds a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Must pass the basic skills test prescribed by the State Board
of Education.
- Has completed 15 semester hours (or equivalent) in the teaching
subject area or subject area for which license is sought.
- Has completed, within the previous five years, an additional
six semester hours (or equivalent) of coursework, with a minimum
GPA of 2.5, in one or more of the following areas teaching content area, characteristics of student learning,
diversity of learners, planning instruction, instructional
strategies, learning environments, communication, assessment,
and/or student support.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The individual enters the classroom to teach full-time for
one year under the Conditional Teaching Permit.
Must complete an additional three semester hours in the teaching
or content area during the year for which the Conditional Teaching
Permit is issued.
Must complete the requirements for the Alternative Educator
License at the end of the year for which the Conditional Teaching
Permit is issued.
NUMBER OF CREDIT HOURS TO COMPLETE
One year to evidence a total of 30 hours of coursework in
the teaching or subject area, six semester hours of specified
professional education coursework, and three semester hours
of in-service coursework., including 15 semester hours of pre-service
and three semester hours of in-service coursework.
LENGTH OF TIME
One year, nonrenewable.
