MOTIVATION
"Conversion programs shall be specifically designed to
prepare for teacher certification persons who hold baccalaureate
degrees."

REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER
Programs must meet the following criteria:
Responsibility for assuring the quality of programs will be
centralized in a single specifically designated administrative
unit.
Conversion programs shall be consistent with the philosophy
and objectives upon which all other education programs are based.
Data should be available to indicate that consistency exists.
One person shall be responsible for coordinating conversion
programs within each administrative unit.
There will be published criteria for admission to the program.
Life experience may be accepted by the institution subject
to the following provisions:
1. No more than one-third (1/3) of the total work required for
any individual conversion program may be satisfied by life experience.
2. A system for evaluation of life experience shall assure that:
a. experience is related to specific areas in general education,
professional education, or specialty area competency. These
are listed in Ed 609, 610, 611 and 612.
b. documentation must be provided for any life experience.
STANDARDS FOR CONVERSION PROGRAMS
The program involves individuals being given transcript evaluation
by an IHE, which determines coursework and student teaching
which must be completed. Conversion programs are approved by
the State Department of Education.
Student Teaching. Student teaching procedures must conform
to the following:
1. Any student admitted to student teaching must be competent
in the basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics according
to the same criteria established for the school's undergraduate
programs.
2. Student teaching or other major practicum must meet all the
provisions of Ed 610.07.
Previous Collegiate Training. A process must exist to assure
that any previous collegiate training is consistent with recent
developments in general education, professional education, and
any specialty area.
Counseling and Advising Students. Advisors must assist students
in structuring individual programs designed to maximize strengths,
overcome weaknesses, and reflect attention to a variety of backgrounds
and potential.
