ALTERNATIVES FOR CERTIFICATION IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

The New Hampshire State Board of Education recognizes that persons may become qualified as educators through a variety of educational and life experiences.

Therefore, the following alternatives to becoming a certified educator in New Hampshire are made available to applicants.

Alternative 1: Approved Programs in New Hampshire
Alternative 2: States Other Than New Hampshire
Alternative 3: Demonstrated Competencies and Equivalent Experiences
Alternative 4: Individual Professional Development Plan (Restricted)
Alternative 5: Site-Based Certification Plan

Note: as of July 24, 2003, each candidate seeking initial certification must document basic academic skills, ed 513. Candidates may do so by passing the praxis I (pre-professional skills test, ppst, or computer based test, cbt), or qualify for an exemption.

As of July 24, 2003, each candidate seeking initial teacher certification in any one of the major areas of concentration shall pass a subject assessment test, ed 513, unless the candidate is exempted for the subject assessment test.

This affects Alternatives 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 candidates for certification.
