Provisional Re-Entry Teaching Certificate

HISTORY

Effective November 12, 2000.

MOTIVATION

To provide that teachers who have been long-absent from the classroom are re-tooled to be successful in today's classroom.

WHO OPERATES

SEA, IHE, and LEA.

REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER

Have held a lapsed regular Nebraska or other state certificate.

Have teaching employment in a school.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The individual must complete 15 semester hours of specified credit to return to a regular certificate -- 6 semester hours per year -- if the regular certificate is lapsed by five or more years.

Coursework includes school law, issues in education, curriculum updating, and 100 hours of in-class practicum.

NO. OF CREDIT HOURS TO COMPLETE

15 semester hours -- 6 hours per year. A structured program, not free choice.

SEA and IHE.

LENGTH OF TIME

One year. Renewable if progress is made.

OTHER

The human relations training course -- which is mandatory for all certificate holders -- may be included in the required 15 semester hours.
