REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER
The holder of the certificate is limited to the school requesting
its issuance.
The individual must:
- Submit a written request for issuance of the certificate from
the superintendent or governing body of the local school district;
- Have received a baccalaureate degree;
- Have completed at least one-half of the pre-student teaching
requirements of an approved teacher education program, including
a course in teaching methods;
- Have fulfilled three-quarters of the requirements for a subject
or full endorsement;
- Submit a statement of intent to fulfill his/her remaining
program and endorsement requirements during the period in which
the certificate is in effect or to make sure progress (at least
six semester hours) which fulfills some or all of the remaining
requirements.
The applicant must have achieved a minimum score on the Pre-Professional
Skills Test or Content Mastery Examination for Educators (CMEE)
unless he/she has previously held a regular (not provisional)
Nebraska teaching certificate.
The applicant must complete a qualifying course in human relations
training or submit a narrative describing qualifying work experience to fulfill the requirement. The narrative must be verified by a supervisor of the work experience.
The applicant must complete a qualifying three-hour course
in special education.
The applicant must submit to a criminal history background
check (fingerprints) if not a five-year or longer Nebraska
resident or holder of a previous Nebraska certificate.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
While teaching with a Provisional Certificate, the individual
must complete 6 semester hours of credit for college coursework
which fulfills some or all of his/her remaining program or
endorsement requirements.
Each year, the individual must submit an application and a
written request for renewal of the certificate from his/her
employing school district.
NO. OF CREDIT HOURS TO COMPLETE
Six (6) semester hours per year toward completing certification
requirements.

LENGTH OF TIME
Valid for one year. Renewable if specified progress toward
completion of an IHE teacher education program is being made.
