Teach Mississippi Program
HISTORY
The Teach Mississippi Institute was mandated by the Mississippi
Legislature during the 2002 legislative session, but the Institute
did not begin until Jan. 1, 2003.

REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER PROGRAM
The institute is available to applicants who hold a minimum of
a bachelor's degree from a regionally/nationally accredited institution
of higher education, but have not completed a state- or NCATE-approved
teacher education program.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Teach Mississippi Institute is an eight (8) week, nine (9) semester
hour summer program which shall include, but is not limited to,
the following:

Instruction in education;
•
Effective teaching strategies;
•
Classroom management;
•
State curriculum requirement;
• Planning and instruction;
•
Using tests to improve instruction; and
•
A one (1) semester, three (3) semester hour, supervised internship,
to be completed while the teacher is employed as a full-time teacher
intern in the school district.
NUMBER OF CREDIT HOURS TO COMPLETE
Nine (9) semester hours of course work and three (3) semester
hours of internship.

Five (5) years; renewable.
