University-Based Alternative Teacher Certification
HISTORY
Enacted in legislation by the General Assembly in 2000.
MOTIVATION
Designed to relieve overall teacher shortages and provide
a mechanism for recruitment of mid-career professionals into
teaching.

REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER PROGRAM
Bachelor's or master's degree;
Meet minimum teacher education admissions standards.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Allows completion of the teacher preparation program with
concurrent employment in a school district.
After obtaining employment, the candidate is issued a Temporary
Provisional Certificate.
Participates in the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program (KTIP).
The candidate must complete all requirements within two years
and pass all required assessments.
The candidate then receives the Professional Certificate.
