HISTORY
Effective July 1, 1992.
MOTIVATION
To enable recognized experts -- such as artists, native speakers
of less commonly taught languages, etc. -- to bring their knowledge
and expertise into public schools.
GRADE LEVELS AND/OR SUBJECT AREA(S)
Teaching fields and superintendent.
WHO OPERATES
Professional Standards Commission.
REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER PROGRAM
Established competence in field.
Three years experience in field.
Bachelor's or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution,
except performing arts.
Permits granted to teaching fields and superintendent only.
There must be verified circumstances, including verification
that there are no acceptable certified personnel available to
serve in this capacity.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
There are no program requirements.

WHO EVALUATES
LEA.
LENGTH OF TIME
Permits are issued annually and may be renewed if the LEA verifies
implementation of mentor support, induction, and professional
development during the validity period of the previous permit.
Additionally, the required Praxis II Subject Assessment(s) must
be passed if one is available in the field.
