TITLE
Master's in Secondary Education with Initial Certification
HISTORY
Established in 1996 at the request of the Delaware Department
of Education.
Number served to date 13; 100 percent employment.
MOTIVATION
Designed to provide individuals who holds a bachelor's degree
from a regionally-accredited college or university with the
professional education courses necessary to become certified
in an approved content area.
GRADE LEVELS AND/OR SUBJECT AREA(S) COVERED
Grade levels 7-12.
Subjects:
Reading, English/Language Arts, Science, Mathematics, Social
Studies.
WHO OPERATES
IHE; developed in conjunction with and with approval of the
Delaware Department of Education.
REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER
A bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited IHE.
Overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75.
Content area GPA of 3.0.
Submission of scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE),
and scores from one subject test in the teaching field.
Completed written application which includes a statement of
professional goals.
One-page resume.
Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a
college instructor in their major discipline.in an approved
content area.
All supporting documentation must be received by July 30 of
each year.
No coursework may be taken in this degree program until formal
acceptance into the program.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Candidates complete graduate university coursework, including
theories of learning; classroom management; models of curriculum
and instruction design; and a student teaching experience.
NUMBER OF CREDIT HOURS TO COMPLETE
30 graduate credits.
