- Where can I get certified to teach through an alternative
route in Alabama?
- As
of December 15, 2003, the State of Alaska does not
offer any alternate
routes
to teacher certification. Applicants
are required to complete an approved teacher preparation
program through a regionally accredited institution of
higher education. The approved program is one that
has been determined by the board or the commissioner
of education of the state in which the program was offered
as substantially meeting the unit standards set out in
Standards Procedures & Policies for the Accreditation
of Professional Education Units, 1997 Revision and the
program standards set out in NCATE Curriculum Guidelines,
Spring 1998, published by the National Council for Accreditation
of Teacher Education.
- Alaska is currently
researching alternate route programs in order to create
an alternate
program to fit the educational
needs of our state. This will require state board
approval. No timeline has been established. Our
administrator, Cynthia Curran, can be reached by
email at Cynthia_Curran@eed.state.ak.us for more
detailed information on potential alternate route programs
in Alaska.
