Alternative Programs Leading to Initial Educator Licensing

Under new rules promulgated in 2000, the state superintendent could approve alternative programs that lead to initial educator licensing, beginning in 2001. Some pilot programs are underway.

MOTIVATION

In order to address shortages and provide accelerated, performance-based programs to non-traditional students, new rules were promulgated, which allow colleges and universities, agencies, school districts, and others to develop alternative programs.
