TITLE
Special Education Conditional License
HISTORY
Available with the implementation of the Licensure Regulations
for School Personnel on July 1, 1998.
MOTIVATION
To provide an alternative route to individuals employed by
an educational agency in Virginia who seek a special education
endorsement in grades PreK-12, to help meet shortages in this
critical field.

REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER
A candidate must:
- Be employed by an accredited Virginia public or nonpublic
school.
- Hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year
college or university.
- Have an assigned mentor, fully endorsed in special education.
- Have a planned program of study in the assigned endorsement
area and have completed a minimum of six semester hours in
the core competencies of students with disabilities and the
legal aspects associated with students with disabilities.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Working with support from the mentor, the candidate must complete
the planned program of study in the assigned endorsement area.
