Competence, preparation, and experience in the subject to be taught.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The individual may be licensed by the Standards Board for Professional Educators through an evaluation process.

The Standards Board shall recommend individuals for evaluation based on evidence of competence, preparation, and experience in the field for which a license is being sought.

The evaluation is conducted by a peer review panel, with members including a faculty member from a college (for example, to evaluate a person to teach science, this panel member might be a college science professor) and licensed teachers (who have experience in that same specialty).

The panel may recommend that the individual be licensed without reservation or that he/she be licensed only after completing additional specified coursework.

NUMBER OF CREDIT HOURS TO COMPLETE

Coursework may be required.
