1. You will be scheduled to take the ACCUPLACER and Critical
Thinking Exams
Acceptance into the program will be based on the following
criteria:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university--
Minimum GPA = 2.60;
- College transcript(s) showing degree earned;
- Critical Thinking Test -- Minimum score
= 64%;
- Pre-assessment quiz on technology and skills,
if applying for Technology Applications Certification;
- Writing Sample and TASP or Compass Scores
(previous scores accepted if exams taken within five years
prior to the date of your application to this program).
Foreign applicants must also include:
- Transcript review by a Foreign Credential

TRACK 1:
Uncertified Candidates:
(1 year instruction + 1 year support)
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- 88 contact hours of training in Professional
Development (partially online)
- 5-6 Modules of Content Training (partially
online)
- 10-20 hours of field-based research (depending
on teaching experience)
- 15 hours of a service learning experience
(outside of school)
- Successful completion of Professional
Development and Content Area ExCET/TExES exams.
- Candidate's first year is instruction
only. After successful completion of instructional courses,
candidate moves into the second year phase of program.
- Candidate's second year is spent teaching
in a K-12 classroom. (Candidate is responsible for securing
own position.) During the second year, candidate will have:
- Full-time employment as a teacher; support
by a mentoring committee throughout the school year
- Four hours of monthly Professional Development
- Weekly Internet discussions with peers
and mentor Coordinator
TRACK 2:
Uncertified Teacher Candidates, Teaching on Probationary
Certificates:
(1 year of instruction, mentoring, and internship.)
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- Full-time employment as a teacher
- Support by a mentoring committee throughout
the school year
- 88 contact hours of training in Professional
Development and 5 modules of Technology Applications (partially
online)
- Weekly Internet discussions with peers
and Mentor Coordinator
- Successful completion of Professional
Development and Content Area ExCET/TExES exams.
- Candidates will be required to submit:
- Complete online application
- Application fee $50.00 (Excludes test
fees, textbooks, and software. Includes Accuplacer Exam
fee.)

TRACK 3:
Certified Teachers:
(1 semester instruction)

exam.

Development
Training:
Professional Development -- Non-certified candidates and teachers
on Emergency Permits must complete 88 hours of professional
training.
Content Certifications:
EC-4 Generalist and EC-4 Bilingual Generalist Training
Admission to program is on a rolling basis. When you are
accepted to the program, you will be enrolled in the next available
training module.
Content Area (Online):
English and Language Arts; Mathematics; Social Studies; Science;
Fine Arts, Health, Physical Education; and Bilingual Education
for those pursuing the Bilingual Generalist Certification.
Pedagogy & Professional Responsibilities (Online):
Designing Instruction and Assessment; Creating a Positive,
Productive Classroom Environment; Implementing Effective, Responsive
Instruction and Assessment; Fulfilling Professional Roles and
Responsibilities; and Technology Applications.
Internship:
All new teachers are required by the State of Texas to complete
a successful one-year mentored internship as a teacher of record
in a Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, or first, second, third,
or fourth grade classroom.
Candidates must successfully pass:
The TExES EC-4 Bilingual Generalist Exam or
The TExES EC-4 Generalist Exam
The TExES Pedagogy & Professional Responsibilities EC-4
Exam
The Texas Oral Proficiency Test - Spanish (Bilingual candidates
only)
