a/  The number comparable to the totals for previous years is 12,091.  The lower figure includes only individuals who completed programs at 39 teacher education institutions in the state.

b/  These totals include all new licenses and certificates issued, including career ladder, vocational trade shop, out-of-state, Interim Probationary License Types A and B, as well as persons who have completed an approved teacher education program.

c/  Approved by the State Board in Nov. 1990.  Only three programs in operation.

d/  Persons who were not teaching in Tennessee during the previous year.
