MOTIVATION
To attract qualified individuals into the teaching field by
offering a more flexible licensure route..
GRADE LEVELS AND/OR SUBJECT AREA(S) COVERED
All initial areas except Elementary K-8, and
Middle Grades 5-8.

REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER
Option 1
Bachelor's degree in teaching area from a regionally accredited
institution.
Option 2
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
in any area.
Letter from college certification officer at approved institution
verifying that the applicant has satisfied the subject area
component of the approved teacher education program for the
desired area endorsement.
Option 3
Bachelor's degree form a regionally accredited institution
in any area and passing scores on the Praxis Specialty Test(s)
required for the desired area(s) of endorsement.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The candidate must meet the subject matter requirements in
one of the three was described in the previous section.
Then the applicant must receive an "Intent to employ" signature
from a Local Education Agency (LEA).
Once the candidate is employed, he/she has three school years
to (1) complete 24 semester hours of professional education
coursework, (2) pass all required portions of the Praxis Exams
(specialty tests and PLT)
and (3) accrue at least two years of successful experience
on the Interim E License.
Candidate submits documentation to the state verifying completion
of these three things and requests a full Tennessee license.
NOTE
Candidates must meet university teacher education program
admission requirements even though they are not formally being
admitted.
NUMBER OF CREDIT HOURS TO COMPLETE
24 semester hours of professional education coursework.

IHE, State Department of Education.
LENGTH OF TIME
One year. Renewal for two additional years if renewal requirements
are met each year.
OTHER
The candidate must have met admission requirements to a teacher
education program before the first renewal and obtain a program
of study signed by a college certification officer outlining
the professional education requirements lacking for full licensure
not to exceed 24 semester hours. The candidate must complete
at least six semester hours of coursework toward the program
of study to renew the Interim E License each year.
