HISTORY

Approved by the State Board in Nov. 1990. The University of Tennessee - Knoxville, the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga, and the University of Memphis offer this program. Beginning Fall of 2003, all Tennessee Board of Regents IHEs offer Alt C Licenses through the Regents Online Degree Program (RODP).

MOTIVATION

Desire to attract extremely capable persons with maturity and a variety of work experiences to the teaching profession.

REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a teaching related field.

Screening by IHE and K-12 practitioners.

Testing requirements for admission to a teacher education program. (Praxis PPST)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The LEA and the IHE collaboratively plan the employment. The candidate has the support of a mentor and participates in additional preparation activities.

Following successful completion of all education and test requirements, the candidate will be recommended for full licensure by the institution.
